Kurt Wewer is a cook, farmer, forager, musician, hunter, husband, and father. Born & raised in south central Pennsylvania, time outside and gathering of family and friends around great food and drink was built into everyday life. Cooking and playing guitar from the age of 5, creativity has always been the driving force behind what makes him thrive. His early days cooking mostly simple, peasant Italian food beside his Mother and Nanna (AKA Nonna) formed the building blocks of the waste not, want not, nose to tail, seasonal approach that fortified his first restaurant - the multiple-award winning - Garlic Poet Restaurant & Bar, as a casual fine dining staple in the area.

Currently a full time farmer and private chef for a private residence near Hershey, PA, Chef Kurt is offering his services for hire once again to the public.

More about Chef Kurt…

Starting as a dish washer at 14, he worked for several impactful chefs and operations in and around Harrisburg. At first in pizza shops and casual dining, then spending 7 years with Hershey Entertainment & Resorts all prepared him for his first restaurant as the executive chef; The Garlic Poet.

The Garlic Poet was award winning year after year starting in 2014 with Best New Fine Dining Restaurant in Central Pennsylvania (among many other awards). Chef Kurt and the team at the Garlic Poet won the top honors at Central PA Super Chef that same year and took 4 of the 5 total possible awards at the competition including: Overall Winner, Best Creativity, Best Taste, and Best Savory Dish.

After taking 2015 off from competitions to focus on opening a 2nd restaurant attached to the Garlic Poet; Grain & Verse Bottlehouse (Central PA’s first 300+ craft beer variety location); the team took aim at winning the one category they missed in 2014; Best Dessert. They scored top honors in the dessert category with liquid nitrogen churned chicken & waffle ice cream.
